Routines and ideas for the Mental UFO II

“Up In Smoke”



This is a little effect I have been playing with. I know smoking is not a social activity anymore but this is a super little trick and you do not need to smoke to perform it. 

What you need:

5 Cigarettes each of a different brand.

What to do

Remove some of the tobacco from each of the Cigs and insert one of the waterproof capsule chips into each one. Now replace some of the tobacco. You should now have 5 very innocent looking cigs. 

Routine Phase One:

The Performer talks about how nicotine is a drug just like alcohol and just like having a favourite drink, smokers have a favourite brand of cig. 

I ask 5 spectators to each walk over to the table and pick up a cig. They are told to conceal the cig between their palms (I am looking away).

At this point there is no way I could possibly know who is holding my favourite brand. I walk up to each person in turn and look at them in the eyes. I slightly adjust their hand position by grabbing their wrist and gently pulling towards me. This should enable you to get a reading. 

Do this to all 5 spectators remembering which spectator is holding your brand (in my case this is Silk Cut but I have not let on yet) after a little mind play I look directly at the correct spectator and tell him he is holding my Cig. I reach into my pocket and remove my Silk Cut box and ask the spectator to look in his hand and confirm he is indeed holding a Silk Cut. I wait for the applause and then place his Cig back in to my box. 

Phase Two:

Four spectators are left holding four different brands of Cig. They are requested to have a peek inside their hand to note which brand they are holding. I turn my head away and cover my eyes with my left hand and out stretch my right hand (connected to the Mental UFO). I ask the spectators to come up in any order and place their hands under mine. After some mind reading gestures I reveal who is holding which brand!


This is an easy but strong two phase routine. If you do not want to use Cigarettes you can use any five different items. I like to use Cig's as every one knows what they are and the chipped capsule fits in very nicely.

Next
